If you are asking yourself “How do I want more time for myself but I have too much work to do.” then your priorities are off. You have not asked yourself, “How much work should I be doing right now?” Because you already have all of the work that needs to be done.

Time is money. You can’t have both. Ask yourself this, how much time do I need to get done today? If you only get two hours of work done you will never get anything done. You must have at least six hours of productive time in order to get the most done. If you cannot have more than six hours of productive time, then you need to re-evaluate your priorities and make some changes.

The first thing you want to do when you realize that you have too much work to do is to get busy. If you are like most of us, you probably don’t want to be working, you want to be playing. Find a hobby that gives you a good workout and enough activity to keep you from getting too much work done. Go to your local library and read a good book or go watch a good movie.

Now, you are busy so you have to set aside some time to get organized. I recommend setting up a daily planner so you know where everything is. That way you do not get lost or confused. This is very important if you have a lot of things such as bills, computers, cell phones, writing etc. You also want to have an emergency fund set up so that you have something to fall back on if something happens.

After your planner is set up, the next step is to start prioritizing. First things to do are things that get done every day such as driving to work, picking up your kids from school, cooking dinner, cleaning your house, and shopping. I want you to write down how long it will take you to complete each task on your list. This is good because at the end of the week, you will see what has not been completed. At this point, you can decide if you want to tackle these tasks again or if you want to move on.

I want you to pay attention to your priorities. Sometimes priorities drive us nuts. For example, my priority is having a fresh clean home to come home to everyday. Once I realize that I need to prioritize my work, I can give this work its own time management tip such as setting aside thirty minutes of time during the night for writing or reading a book or spending time with my family.

Another thing that I want you to keep in mind when wanting to learn more about time management tips is that I want you to be able to say no when it comes to work. Some people think that they need to have a job to be able to be successful. However, this is not true. Having a job does not mean you are fulfilled with what you do. You have more options to be able to spend more time with your family and friends or to pursue your passions.

So, I ask that you keep these things in mind when you are trying to figure out ways to get more time for yourself. If you feel like you are working too hard, or that you have too much work to do, then you may want to get more time away. There are many ways to relax and to take a break when you feel overwhelmed by work. Give it a try.
